Pinwheel Blanket for Baby Wren

My life has taken some unexpected, yet happy, detours lately. I often find myself with not enough time to think, let alone to get crafty. Knitting however, I find incredibly therapeutic and I always make time for it. If I've got yarn in my lap, I'm a happy girl.  Something about the repetitive motions, and the feel of the yarn slipping through my fingers...aah...cathartic!!

This bright and happy blanket was made for my sweet little cousin, Kathryn, or Wren as she's called by those who love her. This was my first attempt at a knitted blanket, so there are several dropped stitches and mess ups, but it still turned out okay, I think. I used a pattern by Genia Planck located here, and Bernat Softee Baby Yarn in the colorway "Rock a Bye Baby". I added a scalloped crochet border.

It Runs in the Family....

Yarn obsession that is! My 13yo created this afghan for her Great Gramma K. Lots of love & prayers went into this blanket. Gramma loved it. :)

Crocheted Collaboration & Baby Things

Life has really gotten in the way of blogging lately, but I guess that's a good thing, right? I have been a knitting and crocheting fiend. Lots of new babies are arriving into our extended family this year, so most of my projects have been in smaller sizes. I have casted on a pair of winter socks for myself, and am working on those Christmas stockings (still) for my own munchkins. My first crocheted sweater. Made for a beautiful, dark-haired, brand-new baby girl in the family. While it is by no means perfect, it was surprisingly easier to make than I thought it would be. My cousin and I collaborated on this project, she made the hat while I made the sweater. We used the patterns Baby Daisy Cloche by Bonny Smith and Aunt Jen's Sweater by Sandi's Angels.

These are coordinating Baby Mary Jane Skimmers by Sylvia Schuchardt I made. Sweater, hat and shoes were made with Lion Brand Baby yarn in Sweet Pea. I also made a summer hat and shoes using Lion Brand Cotton yarn in poppy & white. The shoes are way too big right now, but the hat looks adorable on Baby E. :)

I'm currently working on a blanket and a pair of camo loafers for Baby Tucker. Hope to post an update soon!

Haekelbeutel Lining

I finished the lining for my Spring Haekelbeutel last week. I wasn't sure how to go about this at first, but figured if I cut the squares and assembled them the same way I made the bag it should work as a lining.

Here's the lining inside out.
Here it is stitched in, with a couple of pockets added.
It works well, although the next one I make I hope to make the pockets closer to the bottom of the bag.
I am seriously addicted to making these bags. I'm working on another right now, and have plans for a third already. The squares go together quick and easy, making for a nice sittin' on the couch with hubby, watching tv at the same time kinda project. ;)

Coffee Mojo

Hello!
Here's another Mojo Monday sketch...number 77 this time. :) Since I've been a crocheting fiend lately, I haven't stamped in a couple of weeks. Hubs and I went shopping the other day, and I dragged him into my two favorite craft stores. The man must really, really love me, because even though he complained, he went willingly. I found a cute acrylic set called Coffee Cafe that I just loved! I've been looking for a cute coffee/tea set for awhile, and since this one was 50% off I bought it. I also found a couple of sentiment stamps by Inkadinkado. After looking at my new stamps for a couple of days, I decided that I needed to untangle myself from all that yarn and create something on paper.

I love the Mojo Monday blog. It's great for inspiration, and also fun to see what everyone does with the same sketch.

After stamping this, I realized how badly that I'm in need of a new black ink pad. :( The background paper is Bo Bunny's Alissa Look at Me....so springy! The sentiment is by Inkadinkado.

Crocheted Doxie

I'm really intrigued by amigurumi. In case you don't know what the heck I'm talking about, amigurumi is the japanese art of crocheting small dolls or toys. It's also fun to say....amigurumi!!! Just google it if you wanna know more, there is some really wild and wacky amigurumi out there! :D

Being the weiner-dog lover that I am, when I saw this little amigurumi doxie pattern, I had to try to create one!
Aren't his eyes bonkers? I didn't have any animal eyes, so I winged it and just stitched some on. I'm wishing I'd have practiced first, but he's still cute, right?

I think the funniest things about this pattern are the nose and tail...they are so true to dachshund form. :) Despite his Princess Leia ears and wonky eyes, my kids loved this little toy! I'm going to look for some animal eyes next time I go to the craft store, that or practice my embroidery skillz! :D

Spring Haekelbeutel

When I saw this pattern on Ravelry, I knew immediately I wanted to try it. This is the first bag I've crocheted, and I couldn't be more pleased with it. While I loved the look of Magicline yarn that some folks have used for this bag, I sadly couldn't get my hands on any around here. I used Lily Sugar n' Cream Country Stripes instead, and loved how the colors turned out! :)
The pattern was a little confusing at first, but I found some help on one of the Ravelry boards. Each row you need to increase by 2 at the beginning and at the end. So starting at row one, it would be 3 dc, 7dc, 11dc and then 15dc. I made mine in 4 rounds as I wanted a smaller bag that I could use as a purse. I also crocheted this with an F hook, as I wanted a tight, stiffer fabric.
I'm working on lining the bag today. I'm still not sure exactly how I'm going to do that, but I'm thinking I'll do it in squares and assemble the same way I put the bag together. While this photo isn't the best, these fabrics pick up the colors in the bag nicely. My daughter helped me find these buttons which I plan to attach at the handles. I'll post a pic when it's done!

Mojo with a Cherry on Top

Hi Everyone!

Here's my card for Monday Mojo sketch #70. I don't always have time for sketches, especially lately, but I so appreciate that they are there to inspire me when I do find the time. :) My daughter and I have stamped all afternoon today, it's been so much fun!
The stamps on this card are Sweet Treats by Stampin' Up! and sentiment is by Studio G. Papers are from K Marcella's Cupcake paper kit. Lots of Stickles, which weren't dry yet when I took this pic, so please ignore the gloopiness. LOL I always tend to go overboard with the glitter, especially on Valentine's cards. That's not such a bad thing, is it? ;-)

Critter Fun

A few weeks ago, I picked up the DCWV Animal Crackers matstack at JoAnn's. I was happy to find some jungle-themed paper to use with the many monkey, bird, giraffe and other jungle animal stamps that I've collected over the years. :) This card was inspired by Mojo Monday #54. I used papers from Animal Crackers, and the monkey stamp is one from The Angel Company. The little thinking of you bubble sentiment is by Studio G.

This card used the paper pieces left over from Mojo Sketch 54 above, along with the crocodile (or alligator?) from Stampin' Up's Animal Valentines. This set is long retired, but is one that my kids and I use every year.

Yes, I'm Still Crafty....

Hello!

I know, I know, it's been awhile since I've posted. Did anyone miss me? Let me assure you, I am alive and well and happily crafting again! :) I had a 3 month working stint this past fall. Between the job and homeschooling my children, trying to keep my house up, maintaining my relationship with the hubster...I seriously, honestly, about completely lost my mind! I have a newfound respect for working mothers, and especially working moms who homeschool their kiddos. I found it hard to find any free time for myself, which was an absolute bummer, because me not having a creative outlet is not a good thing. Regardless, I am thankful that I had the opportunity for this job, short-lived as it was. God used it to teach me lot of things about myself, and it also provided Christmas money for my family. :)
-
Another reason for my absence? Since quitting my job, I've also pretty much unplugged myself from the online world. No more Facebook, blog-surfing, drooling over craft blogs, homeschool blogs...etc. I've kept myself to checking my email once a day and checking in on my favorite message boards once a day or so. That's another thing that working brought to light for me, the many ways that I had wasted time in the past. As much as I love it, for me, the internet is a huge distraction from the responsibilities of raising my children and loving on my family.

So anyway, I'm back to crafting and I'm totally immersed in everything yarnie right now. I made my folks an afghan for Christmas...aren't they the cutest? (The parents, not the afghan! ;) ) This afghan is the Two Color Afghan from Lion Brand Yarn's website. Yes, I used three colors in my two colors afghan..I'm onery like that. ;) I used Caron one pound yarn in the following colors: Taupe, Cape Cod Blue & Off White.

The rest of the pics are of projects in progress....in various states of almost done, to some just started. :)
This is my first experience with crocheting bobbles. Can you see them? I can't really in this photo, but trust me...they are there! :D This scarf is from the book Crochet Scarves! by Candi Jensen. The pattern is called Blackberry Cobbler. The yarn is Patons Classic Wool, although the color escapes my mind at the moment. I'm thinking it's rosewood or something along those lines.

Next, socks for my sweet boy. This is the first time I've tried crocheting socks, and I'm surprised how simple it actually is. This pattern is In Your Shoes Ankle Socks. It was nice to find a pattern that actually used sock yarn, since anything else would have been too "slipperfied" for my manly little guy. ;) I used Sensations Soles and More yarn in grey shades for this....also a teeny, tiny, almost invisible hook. ;) As you can see, I need to finish up the heel and then it's off to the next sock.
This is my favorite project at the moment. It's the Easy Lacy Shells scarf made with Bernat Alpaca wool in Persimmon. I've just started the edging, but am so looking forward to wearing it! Can I say how much I love this yarn? So soft, fuzzy, and beautiful to boot. The catch is if you have cats and attempt to knit/crochet something with alpaca wool...look out. My cat has a love/hate relationship with this yarn. She's always in my yarn basket sniffing it all the while with her mouth hanging open. She's not tried to eat it yet, she just seems to find the smelling of alpacas too enticing to resist. :D

Pajama Pants!

It's hard to believe that it's almost time for warm pajamas again! My daughter (almost twelve) has been wanting some pajama pants that aren't girly for like, her entire life. She's just not a pink, purple or sparkly kinda gal. :) I can respect that! She found this lizard patterned material at Jo-Ann's that she liked, so we decided to try to make her some comfy jammies.

We used this Butterwick See & Sew pattern 4006 for these pants. They were super easy and went together in a couple of hours. I think it would have been faster, except I accidently made the pants with only one big leg at first. Lesson learned: pants have two legs! ;-) After lots of stitch ripping and kicking myself, I finally got it right. She looks super cute in them!

Altered Mini Mailbox

Howdy!
So, I purchased several of these little mailboxes from the Target dollar spot back in January/February. I altered some for my munchkins for Valentine's day, and then had tucked the rest away thinking I could use them for something. Well, August is full of birthdays of several little girls in my life, and I found these mailboxes are the perfect size for holding a gift card and candy!
(Above photo not mine...I snagged it off google images.)

If you're interested in the "how-to" of this project, there is a great tutorial located here.

Muchas Gracias!!

Hello! It's been awhile since I've posted. Life's been busy, and crafting has taken a backburner lately. Unless you count the 5 dishcloths I crocheted while visiting my mama in the hospital. :) Hmm. maybe I should post a picture of those! lol

Things have quieted down the last couple of days. Until my cousin and friend, Heidi at Sweet Somethings, visited yesterday and brought with her a plethora of stamps! She knows of my horrid addition to $1 stamps, (as she suffers of the same affliction) and brought over some of the cutest Inkadinkadoo sets. This little guy below is probably my favorite at this point, but I've still got more to ink up! I ran to JoAnn's after Heidi went home and bought more! Shame, shame, I know!
I cased this first one from Novell at Splitcoast. I didn't have a flag stamp, so I drew my own. I'm up way past my bedtime at this point, so I'll try to fill in the details at a later time.

Baby Fever

No, not baby fever here, but baby-stamp fever? Sure! I can only think of one person I know who's expecting, but I felt like making more than one card. Maybe I'll send her both. lol These cute Inkadinkadoo stamps were just begging for ink. :) This one's definitely not the typical baby card with the colors I chose, but I really liked the green and black together.

  • Stamps- Inkadinkadoo's $1 stamp set
  • green, black, striped dp, black souffle pen, ribbons, prismacolor pencils
  • scallop scissors

This one absolutely cracks me up! Simple too!

  • Inkadinkaoo $1 stamp set, bottle from Studio G
  • Mauve Mist (SU!), lavendar DCWV cs,
  • corner rounder, lavendar gingham ribbon, prismacolor pencils
  • paper pieced the diaper and bottle

Slow as a Snail..Belated Birthday

This is totally me! Life has been rather crazy and hectic lately, and more than a few of my favorite persons have received Ecards (gasp!) from me instead of a card. I had lots of time this weekend to catch up on some stamping so I've no excuse now! Here's a snail sending belated wishes inspired by Monday Mojo sketch #42 at Poetic Artistry.
  • Stamps - Inkadinkadoo's $1 stamp set
  • DCWV Paprika cs, & Petite Pink Posies dp by Carolyn Holt designs
  • Paper pieced the snail shell
  • Green stitched ribbon and silver brads
Be blessed,
Amy

Happy Hairball!

Hilarious and gross at the same time, right? If you have a cat, (or wish you didn't) you know what I'm talkin' about. This is one of the $1 sets from Inkadinkadoo, found at my home away from home, my escape from reality, my retail therapy, my local JoAnns.
  • Stamps - Inkadinkadoo $1 set
  • DCWV Pets Stack, red and white cs
  • Green ribbon, Prismacolors

Be blessed,

Amy

Birthday Bunny

Whoa! A card with NO coloring! I was inspired by the Monday Mojo sketch #15 at Poetic Artistry for this card. No matter that it's an incredibly old sketch, or that it's not Monday...hey, I stamp when I can, ya know? :) I thought about coloring this bunny, but then I thought maybe he looked better with just his black jacket.
  • Stamps- Inkadinkadoo's Humorous Birthday set
  • black, red, white cs, red polka dot dp.
  • white souffle pen, ribbon, silver brads, Stampin' Up circle punch

Have a good one!

Finally Finished the Afghan that Would Never End!

Yes, it's done. Whew! It's actually been completed for awhile, but I just hadn't been able to get a picture taken of it. Our laptop crashed, and our photo software wasn't working on the desktop. Argh...computers are just a pain the bohunkus sometimes! This is the 8-color afghan from Lion Brand Yarn's website. What's next on the crocheting front? I've been working on some dishcloths here and there, but the next big project will probably be an afghan for my son. He's requested camo and green. :D

I Love my Mom!

Hey there!
I hope that all my mommy pals had a wonderful day yesterday! I enjoyed a wonderful time with my family. We invited my sweet mom over for brunch, and I decided to make homemade cinnamon rolls...a first for me. Luckily, I happened upon this totally awesome recipe! It's just too good not to share. I loved the idea of using my bread machine for the dough, but these could be made without one as well. I made mine the night before and then let them rise in the morning.

*----Clone of a Cinnabon ----*

Ingredients:

Dough
1 cup warm milk (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
2 eggs, room temperature
1/3 cup margarine, melted
4 1/2 cups bread flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup white sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons bread machine yeast
Filling
1 cup brown sugar, packed
2 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1/3 cup butter, softened
Icing
1 (3 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt

DIRECTIONS : Place ingredients in the pan of the bread machine
in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Select dough cycle; press Start.
After the dough has doubled in size turn it out onto a lightly floured
surface, cover and let rest for 10 minutes. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon.
Roll dough into a 16x21 inch rectangle. Spread dough with 1/3 cup butter and sprinkle evenly with sugar/cinnamon mixture. Roll up dough and cut into 12 rolls. Place rolls in a lightly greased 9x13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise until nearly doubled, about 30 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Bake rolls in preheated oven until golden brown, about 15 minutes. While rolls are baking, beat together cream cheese, 1/4 cup butter, confectioners' sugar, vanilla extract and salt. Spread frosting on warm rolls before serving. Enjoy!!

My mom's card below was made from one of Amy Westerman's Sunday Sketches. I just love Amy's blog Heartfelt Greetings, and read it daily. :) This was the only time I can remember actually sewing on a card, but I really like the way it turned out and have left my sewing machine easily accessible for future cards.

Paper: Bo Bunny's Shabby Princess Ella Precocious & Ella Stripe. I love these papers because they are double sided and always coordinate. Also used Pink DCWV cardstock.

Stamps: Happy Mother's Day by Stampin' Up - (All Year Cheer II - retired)

Ink: Real Red by Stampin' Up

Be blessed!
